My husband has had 3 back surgeries in the past 3 years, 2 in the last 90 days. Surgery was done on the L3, L4 and L5 regions. No ADRs were used - just removal of herniated disc fragments. The last surgery was June 5, microdiscectomy at the L3 level. Surgery went great - no more pain - until 4 weeks later, then severe pain in his lower back. Leg pain is gone - but severe pain in lower back. After 2 MRIs, spinal asperation, blood work and back xrays, he has been advised by his neurosurgeon that he has an unstable spine and now needs fusion at the L3, L4 and L5 areas. Fusion is not a word we wanted to hear. He is 60+ years old and has had back pain most of his life - but nothing dibilating like this. For 4 weeks he has stayed in bed constantly, unable to walk over 20 ft. Does anyone have any advise? Would love to hear comments on people who have had fusions.
