Default Internet in Germany

Because of all the time I spend here; internet access has been frustrating for me. The T-Mobile HotSpot system works well and in Straubing, it was the best thing going. However, it was 18 Euro/day... about $24 US. I've spent too many weeks here paying that EVERY DAY! A 3 week trip is killer!

Since I was here last, they changed their pricing. The highest level of service used to be the 24 hour period... now it's 20 Euro for 30 days!!! What a reprieve.

Pension Post has a hotspot, but it only works in the breakfast room and in the hallway. The thick stone wall construction that they used hundreds of years ago does not lend itself well to WLAN technology. (So much for planning ahead!)

Good news for those going to Germany!

The AlphaKlinik has a free WLAN. I'm in the lobby of the Sheraton on T-Mobile... just came to Munich with Bertagnoli... Diane and I are still in Regensburg. Sheraton still has T-Mobile in lobby and San Francisco Coffee has hotspot. Roemerhoff Theresientor in Straubing has Hotspot in all rooms. St. Elizabeth in Straubing has hotspot in cafeteria, but they are working on WLAN in rooms... may even be active already. KKH Bogen has ethernet LAN access in rooms. It worked well in the past, but on this trip, it was so slow that it was mostly unusable.

More later....

Mark

Mark,

Though you were very instrumental in helping us set up our internet connections for which we both thank you, I sincerely hope I never find out first hand how easy and inexpensive it has become. However, for those traveling over there, wondering how they're going to stay connected, this is both good and informative news.

By the way, we still remark at how the Roemerhoff Theresientor in Straubing took very good care of us.

My best to you and Diane and will talk to you when you return, if that ever happens.

Dale
