Default Dynesys - HA coated screws in USA

Those following Dynesys will be pleased to learn that the hydroxyapatite (HA) coated screws are now being used in the US. The first US cases with the new screws were done on September 25th. The HA coating is the same coating that is on most orthopedic devices that depend on integration of bone and metal. The pourous coating allows bony ingrowth into the metal and speeds secondary fixation. This should reduce the incidence of screw loosening for Dynesys patients.

Note that Dynesys is approved in the US for use as a fusion device. It is still under clinical trial for use as a motion preservation device.
