shoes..
I have to wear pretty lightweight shoes. My tennis shoes are Aasics (sp?) Air Nimbus Gel and I'm still wearing a pair from 4 years ago. They're great, very supportive and cushioned in the right places for me. I have walked miles with these shoes in the last 6 months!
I also wear TEVA sandals and there are various ones that feel better for me, the least cumbersome yet still supportive. Also like Merrell sandals (varying models) and I have a pair of clogs sort of that I bought at an orthopedic store that are so incredibly light you wouldn't believe it and yet so comfortable for walking~ they're called " Supremes" by SoftSpots I really have to search for shoes that are supportive for my feet (flat footed with hammertoes/one bunion left) and right knee that's had 2 surgeries and my spine of course that is problematic at 2-3 levels. Walking is a must for me since it helps my spine to feel better so I really have to be very comfortable and light on my feet or feel that way In the past I wore Nikes all the time~ seems I just have to try and try and try and just find what is right for me at that time in my life as it seems my feet and body change as to whatever will work best when I make a purchase. If it doesn't feel right as soon as I put it on and walk in the store, forget it, I don't buy them. I don't believe in having to break my shoes in if they are right from the beginning.. Good luck and hope you'll soon find something that feels right and gives the necessary support to your spine and rest of your body! Last edited by Maria; 05-04-2007 at 09:47 PM. |

superfeet insoles are great
you get them at sports chalet it depends for me when I am working in studio I wear high top construction boots with thick soles (heavy but the added protection and ankle support pay off when you stand on concrete for long periods) for light duty I wear these shoes called bates, they are utilitarian / cop shoes that still look really slick and from time to time I wear tennis shoes the best thing to do is to have orthopedic shoes made for you there is a store in the valley that does them in all styles (dress, tennis) for like 150 bucks superfeet have a plastic arch support and I put them in all of my shoes |

Great Shoes!!!
I tried every shoe on known to man... and I finally found 2 pairs... thought I would share my info... for any of you, who still have pain while walking.
I got SPIRA shoes.. the white walking ones. They have a spring coil inside the shoe... and BOY is it GREAT!!!!!!!! I also go the M.B.T. shoes. These work great for me, b.c all the pressure is off your heel. It retrains your body in walking. Also strengthens your muscles... these ones do take time to get used to. You will definelty be sore for a while until used to them.. but it has taken the pressure off my lower back and hips!!! My back was sore at first, due to getting the muscles I hardly use, to work again.... Neither pair of shoes come cheap, the SPIRA were 135 while the MBT were 245... but well worth it. THe nice part with the MBT shoes, is they last for about 2-3 years b4 they need to be resoled, and resole america, will do them for 50 bucks!!!! Good Luck!! Hope this helps!!!

I live in sport shoes as a PE teacher but must say Crocs are the most comfortable and ugly shoes on the market and are slip ons. Highly recommend a pair.
I also love my Keens they are great. Hope this helps

Z-Coil
Chuck,
Can you elaborate more about the Z-Coil shoes? I seen a patient come in with a pair of them one time. However, she said it helped with her foot pain issues. They looked difficult to balance on. However, if they take a good part of the impact off the body walking, then I would think they would be a good investment. I have been to their site, but would like to see feedback from someone that has tried them. TTYL, Poncho |

shoes
poncho,
the ones i talked about above..the mbt and spira... the mbt take the pressure off your heals... has made my foot pain dissapear. the spira..cushion all parts of foot with the coils that are inside the shoe...like the zcoil, but the springs are inside the shoe.... hope that helps a little melissa

the z-coil shoes removes 50% of the impact from walking of the body.
balance is no issue and they have a built in rigid orthotic and a inch of foam under the ball area of the foot. also can be bought with a heel cover to cover up the spring but you would then lose 15% of the cushion. i have had them a week now and found they help a great deal. and if you go to buy them and get fitted as there are alot of adjustments you find a week later that you dont like them they can be returned for a full refund less a 40 dollar restocking fee. chuck

The z-coil shoe looks very interesting and if nothing else, I'd like to try them on, but the closest store is at least 1 1/2 hours away, if there's no traffic. In L.A., I don't believe there is such a thing anymore!
What do these cost? Dale

Chuck,
How long did they last or are supposed to last? Do you get weird looks from people walking by? Just how do they benefit you? Thanks, Dale

the salesman says he gets 1 1/2 years from the uppers.
and the heel and spring can be easy replaced for 40 bucks. they help me to be able to stand all day on cement floors. and when walking it feels as there no force to the joints. and they are to relief pain not a fashion statement LOL nobody has really noticed as far as i can tell. chuck ps so far i am very happy with them z-coil walking shoe with laces.

MBT's ALL THE WAY!!!!
I have been back to work now for only 4 hours a day. wore my other shoes the first days..could barely walk by the time i came home... back and feet hurt so bad!!!
started wearing my new MBT shoes!!!!!!! PAIN GONE!!! no back pain, no knee pain, no hip or shoulder pain!!! my chiro was so impressed, for once my whole body was in alignment. the shoes force you to stand up straight and walk right. the first few days, my muscles were sore, even my abs!!! but after that.... they are my new miracle shoe!!!!!!! yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
