Epidural Injections and Diabetes?
My father has type 2 diabetes that is well controlled. Daily blood sugar tests routinely generate readings between 130 and 140.
2 weeks ago, he had a lumbar epidural steriod injection. That day, his blood sugar went to 300. In the 2 weeks since then, sometimes reads 140, often up to 200. There is no rhyme or reason to the highs and lows. His doctors say there is nothing to be concerned about... this is common with sterioid injections. I went through the disclosure process with him when the injection was scheduled... I don't know why this isn't part of the discussion BEFORE the injections??? Maybe this has been discussed here before... Sorry if this is a duplicate post... I hope it helps someone. It's a very uncomfortable time from that panicked, "OMG my blood sugar is almost 3 times normal" moment, to the time you get the reassurance that all is OK. All the best, Mark PS... unfortunately, the injection was negative... no relief for the severe leg pain when he gets up and walks. Could be vascular... could be spine... could be both or something else? We still don't know.
