Surgery for epidural fibrosis (scar tissue build up)
Hi,
Has anyone here had successful microsurgery to free up lumbar nerves bound/tethered by epidural fibrosis? This is a rarely attempted procedure done by a neurosurgeon who is also a microsurgeon. It is not the same as a microdiscectomy or minimally invasive spinal microsurgery. The doctors I have consulted with (othopedic spine surgeons and neurosurgeons) would not even attempt it. I am looking for a specialist in the U.S. Many Thanks! Alex (messed up spine; several failed back surgeries) |
Hi Alex and welcome to the forum,
Just wondering if Dr. Bertagnoli or Dr. Zeegers, both in Germany would be familiar with this type of surgery. Both are spinal surgeons and are considered the absolute top in their field by many. They are both meticulous but I've never read about this type of problem on the forums and this might not be up their alley. I can sympathize with your pain and hope others chime in with some recommendations and that you ultimately find the relief you need. I wish you good luck, Dale |
Hi Alex,
Yes as you said I think a neurosurgeon would be the one to go to for this procedure as they are more specialised where the nerves are concerned. I am in Australia, so I cant put you on to anyone where you live, but there should be some kind of surgical or spine society that you might be able to contact to get some names or a referral from. Good Luck , Michelle. |
Thank you for your replies.
Thank you for your replies! I am still searching...

All the surgeons I asked this questions said that such surgery results in even more scar tissue growing back...
|
What if they use a laser?

Laser for dealing with scar tissue?
Can you please give me link for this procedure, I hear about it first time. Very interesting! |

I have heard exactly the same, it results in more scar tissue, so they don't do it ( at least not in my parts of the world; scandinavia) |
I wonder if it acts the same as abdominal adhesions, scar tissue from previous surgeries? There is a surgeon in Germany who specializes in eliminating these, and maybe he would be able to address those in the spine as well.
I know that the abdominal ones cause great grief with me, and the pain even breaks through the narcotics I take for my back pain. Yet no doctor here will operate as they insist they just come back. I'm ready to try the one over there instead. |
