kmevans,
Sorry about the upper back pain. Hopefully, someone will chime in that has experienced something similar with a cervical procedure. I hope you feel better.

I have similar pain... midway between my shoulder blade and spine. It feels like I've been hit with a baseball in the big muscles of my upper back and there is a big, deep bruise there. I'm told that is common from rear-ender accidents and C5-6-7 problems.
Hopefully, it's just a bump in the road. Don't get too excited too soon. How is your C6-7???? was it pristine or already suspect?

I definitely remember you from the other site. I remember your amazing scar also about how good it looked after surgery. What an excellent seamstress your surgeon was.
I had this pain for years before my 4 level ADR surgery. It was exacerbated by C6-C7 issues and I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia previously. All of this cervical pain disappeared after I healed from the cervical surgery. It was like a miracle to me. You are only three months out of a very major surgery and are probably still healing from this surgery. It is still going to take some time to heal from it and, hopefully this will settle down for you in time. It is also something that you will want to discuss with follow-up care with your physician or surgeon. Hang in there and welcome to this site. Terry Newton

I have had this exact pain on and off for all of my cervical spine journey (12+ years), both pre- and post-op (CED, laminectomy). In my case, the pain was usually relieved by muscle spasm treatments (TENS, massage, ice, moist heat, and muscle relaxants). I tried four or five muscle relaxants until I finally found one that worked: Flexeril. Others have shared that their particular muscle relaxant is x, y, or z, and that they also tried numerous ones until they found one that worked.
Perhaps your problem is also muscle spasms. Ask someone to slightly push where it hurts. If it feels almost good, but very bruised, there is a strong chance that spasms are your problem too. |
