Maria,

Sorry about the news. I was surprised to read "she doesn't have any patients with this severe of osteoporosis". -2.49 is still only osteopenic, so -2.6 is really 'just barely osteoporotic. There was a great article in the LA times health section (sept 13th?) about bone density testing and over diagnosis of and testing for bone density issues.

If you are considering ADR, you'll be asking a lot of questions about the possibility of augmenting bone strenth. If you are not about to do ADR, I hope that you'll just be watching it and treating appropriately... but not considering this ominious news.

(All the obvious "I'm not a doctor, yada, yada, yada" disclaimers go here, so take my opinion with a huge grain of salt!)

All the best,

Mark

(PS... bummer... no margaritas!)

M: I'm very sorry to hear this.

This might be the article Mark mentioned; one drug looks promising if you can get it:

Osteoporosis, osteopenia screening and prevention are best done when we're older - Los Angeles Times

Maria,

I'm sorry to hear that a new dimension has been added to your already full plate of medical problems. One consistent element to most of your posts is that you don't let these defeat you. You treat them more like road blocks which may or may not be a result of your medical training - or a testament to your character - or maybe a little bit of both.

Have you ever made candied or caramel walnuts? Perhaps you can do the same for your meds (and mine). That way, every time you add a new pill to the mix, you'll truly have a sweet tooth satisfying salad!!!!!

Please take care, Dale

Default thanks

ans,
good article and thanks for the link. I hadn't read it.

Dale,
As soon as I read that about the candied pills I thought maybe if I mash them all up and stick them in the blender with a soy vanilla (or coffee) shake I might get thru it all a bit better! No wait, better yet a Cadillac Margarita mashed pills in strawberry blend!

Yes, I tend to take things in stride of late over the last few years. Now I can identify with what my mother used to say about not wanting to go to the doctor again as they just find something else wrong with you
