I wore the brace with 3 months, changing metal stays at 6 weeks. I actually found it comfortable, or at least not uncomfortable. Are you wearing a tight t-shirt under the brace so it's not directly against your skin? That should make it more comfortable and no, it doesn't go into the shower. Just be careful and use common sense.
