Default re risk groups

The vaccine has been recommended for people aged 60 plus in the past because the studies have been done on this age group however Shingles is known to most commonly occur in ages 50 and above. I've known people that had it before this age.

The NP that saw me in the ER said she would have had the vaccine prior to surgery (she asked why I hadn't ).

I definately think the benefit outweighs the risk in the age group of 50 plus as long as there are no indications why one shouldn't have the vaccine.
